Meet the Team at Hearts for Hearing 

Joanna T. Smith, M.S. CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Joanna T. Smith is a Co-Founder and the Executive Director of Hearts for Hearing. Ms. Smith is one of five Certified Auditory-Verbal therapists at Hearts for Hearing and has been working as a speech-language pathologist in the Oklahoma City area for over 30 years. Ms. Smith has been recognized by the Oklahoma Speech Language Hearing Association with the Gwen Cacy Award for outstanding clinical skills. She has served on the Executive Board of OPTION schools International, the AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language Job Analysis taskforce, and the Oklahoma Early Intervention Task Force for Children with Hearing Loss. Ms. Smith is a consultant and an accomplished workshop presenter at the local, state and national levels.

Jace A. Wolfe, Ph.D., CCC-A

Audiology Clinic Manager

Dr. Jace Wolfe is the Director of Audiology at Hearts for Hearing. He holds a Ph.D. in Audiology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) where he previously served as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Wolfe is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the OUHSC teaching courses in Audiologic Instrumentation, Behavioral Measures II and Physiologic Measures 1. His research interest includes pediatric audiology and cochlear implants. Dr. Wolfe has contributed significantly to the field through research, publications, and presentations at numerous state and national workshops.

Kimberly Fox, Au.D., CCC-A

Audiologist

Dr. Fox holds a Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Fox began working with the Hearts for Hearing team as an audiology intern during her clinical doctorate studies and joined the team as an employee shortly after her graduation in May of 2009. As a member of the Hearts for Hearing team, Dr. Fox specializes in pediatric and adult audiologic services and cochlear implants. Dr. Fox has recently authored the research project, “Outcomes in Auditory-Verbal Therapy at Hearts for Hearing.”

Tamara H. Elder, M.S. CCC-SLP, LSLS CERT. AVT

Speech-Language Pathologist
LSLS Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist

Ms. Elder is a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Auditory-Verbal therapist at Hearts for Hearing providing auditory-verbal services for infants and children and cochlear implant habilitation for adults. In addition to her clinical role, Ms. Elder directs and teaches Listening for Littles, a parent-toddler group focused upon parents use of auditory-verbal strategies and modeling for parents. She also provides mentorship in auditory-verbal therapy to professionals. Her previous experience includes early intervention services for families through the Sooner Start Early Intervention Program. Ms. Elder serves on the Early Intervention Task Force on Intervention for Children with Hearing Loss in the state of Oklahoma.

Darcy Stowe, MS., CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT

Speech-Language Pathologist
LSLS Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist

Ms. Stowe is a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Auditory-Verbal therapist at Hearts for Hearing. She currently is the lead teacher in the Hearts for Hearing preschool while providing weekly Auditory-Verbal Therapy services for infants and children with hearing loss as well as Listening Therapy for cochlear implant (re)habilitation for adolescents and adults. Ms. Stowe also represents Hearts for Hearing as a guest lecturer at the university level to better educate future professionals regarding state-of-the-art intervention and management for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Lindsay Hanna, M.S. CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT

Speech-Language Pathologist
LSLS Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist

Ms. Steuart is a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Auditory-Verbal therapist for Hearts for Hearing with an emphasis in language acquisition and development and cognitive-linguistic ability. She also provides consultation for the team regarding oral motor evaluation and dysphagia. Previous experience includes curriculum-based language therapy, consultation, and collaboration with teachers for children preschool through 12th grade as well as outpatient rehabilitation for adults with traumatic brain injury, aphasia, higher-level cognitive-linguistic deficits, dysarthria, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological conditions.

Kris Taylor

Director of Development

Kris Taylor attended the University of Oklahoma and has a vast working knowledge of civic and city business affairs, due to her previous experience at the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. As a mother of a daughter with hearing loss who is now a young adult, Ms. Taylor has experienced firsthand the journey of teaching a child to listen and talk. Because of her daughter’s positive listening and spoken language outcome, Ms. Taylor works diligently raising funds so that others can experience this same life changing result.
