Zachary CA 2 years 2 months

Zachary was referred on newborn hearing screening following a two week stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) following birth. Diagnosed with a bilateral severe sensorineural hearing loss and fit with hearing aids at 6 weeks of age. Began Auditory-Verbal therapy at 6 weeks of age. Etiology: Suspected ototoxic medication during NICU stay. Zachary attends school in a regular classroom with normal hearing children. Zachary returns to Hearts for Hearing for routine audiological services.

Michael CA 8 years

Born prior to mandated hearing screening, Michael was diagnosed with bilateral profound hearing loss at 18 months of age and immediately fit with hearing aids. Began Auditory-Verbal therapy at 24 months of age. Received 1st CI at 2 years, 2 months of age. Received 2nd CI at 8 years, 1 month of age. Etiology: Congenital/Unknown. A graduate of Auditory-Verbal therapy, Michael currently attends middle school at his neighborhood school in the regular classroom with normal hearing children. Michael returns to Hearts for Hearing for routine programming of his cochlear implant devices and consultation with the Auditory-Verbal therapist.

Karli CA 4 years 2 months

Referred on newborn hearing screening Diagnosed with a bilateral moderately severe sensorineural hearing loss. Fit with hearing aids at 5 months of age. At 18 months, loss progressed to profound. Received a cochlear implant at 2 years of age. Received a second cochlear implant in the other ear at 4 years, 6 months of age. Etiology: Large Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome diagnosed prior to 2nd birthday. An Auditory-Verbal graduate, Karli attends school in a regular classroom with normal hearing children. Karli returns to Hearts for Hearing for routine programming of her cochlear implant devices.

Jacob CA 3 years 11 months

Referred on newborn hearing screening. Fit with hearing aids at 1 month of age. Began Auditory-Verbal therapy at 1 month of age Received 1st CI at 12 months of age. Received 2nd CI at 23 months of age. Etiology: Congenital/Unknown Jacob attends Pre-Kindergarten in his neighborhood school in a regular classroom with normal hearing children. Jacob returns to Hearts for Hearing for Auditory-Verbal therapy one time per month and routine programming of his cochlear implant devices.
